Hello and Welcome to our Website!
We are pleased you have chosen to visit us.
This site is the official home of Transcendence, a transgender support, rights and visibility group based at Bowling Green State University (BGSU) in Bowling Green, Ohio. Transcendence was born due to two reasons. Firstly, in the Fall of 2005, an ad hoc committee organized the First Annual Transgender Awareness Days. As a group, we deiced to give ourselves more permanence by becoming an official organization. Secondly, transgender people continue to lag behind other groups (such as lesbians and gays) in terms of visibility, acceptance and civil rights. We see the need for an organization which focuses on transgender issues in order to create a world which truly honors and cherishes the wide breadth of gender diversity found in our society. While the focus of the group is on transgender, the organization is open to ALL, including Significant Others, Friends, Families and Allies (SOFFAs) of the transgender community. Undergraduate and Graduate Students, Faculty and Staff at BGSU, as well as Community Members from Northwest, Ohio are welcome to attend Transcendence meetings and events. Take a look around our site. We welcome feedback and hope to see you at a Transcendence event soon!
What is the Mission of Transcendence?
Transcendence is a registered student organization at Bowling Green State University which aims to promote education and create programming about gender identity issues, provide support to transgender and allied students, faculty, staff and community members, and actively oppose discrimination directed at gender-variant people. Transcendence meets during the academic year in the Women’s Center, 107 Hanna Hall on the campus of BGSU. We also meet in the Summer at local businesses. Please check the "Meetings" tab at the right for dates and times. All who support transgender issues are welcome to attend.
